Moving farm machinery safely on roadways
(PFB
Country Focus, Vol. 15, October ‘05) “becomes a concern during
harvest season when activity increases. Major causes of accidents on
the roadway are due to lack of visibility…however, some ways to
avoid accidents are to clearly mark you equipment with a slow-moving
vehicle (SMV) emblem with reflective material, place reflective material
on extremities of wide machinery, consider installing turn signals, tail
lights, etc. to act as early signal to motorists and finally, make sure
that you and your machinery are in compliance with local laws.”
Arkansas
officials looking for ways to cultivate agritourism in area
(Paragould
Daily Press, 8/23/2006). “Arkansas' tourism industry could
one day officially encompass “agritourism.” University of
Arkansas researcher Harrison Pittman on Tuesday said the state has the
resources to promote agritourism, which encompasses things like Christmas
tree farms, corn mazes, pumpkin patches and “you-pick-'em” vegetable
farms…“You look around this region of the country, and there
are some states who have capitalized on that,” said Sue McGowan,
director and CEO of the Paragould/Greene County Chamber of Commerce…Pittman
said five states - Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Vermont and Tennessee -
recognize agritourism as its own industry.” By Brandon Harris,

Give your Farm Bill Feedback (Yahoo News).
The House Committee
on Agriculture has announced the launch of a web-based farm bill feedback

current farm policy as well as input about the new farm bill. The 2002
Farm Bill expires September 2007 and the committee expects to begin the
farm bill debate in early 2007. You can access the form at www.agriculture.house.gov
by clicking on the Farm Bill feedback icon. The information submitted
to the Committee via the Website will not be part of the Congressional
Record, but members of the House Committee on Agriculture will review
it.
