Pennsylvania Christmas Tree Growers Announce Winners in Wreath competition

Rich and Mary McClellan, McClellan’s Tree Farm, Middleburg, PA (Snyder County), took first place in both the decorated and undecorated categories in the 2005 Wreath Decorating Competition at the annual Winter Conference of the Pennsylvania Christmas Tree Growers Association (PCTGA) held January 20 and 21 in Harrisburg, PA.
McClellan’s Tree Farm also took first place in last year’s competition for decorated wreaths and second place for undecorated. The McClellan’s are long-time members of PCTGA .

Each wreath entered in the competition was made from natural greens grown within the state. Wreaths were judged by the membership on foliage, color, and workmanship (including uniform density, uniform center hold, uniform outside, construction quality, placement of materials and overall appearance). All wreaths are made by current PCTGA members or on a member farm.

Competition wreaths are created on a 12-inch ring with an outside diameter not exceeding 24 inches and total weight of five pounds or less. Entries were limited to one decorated wreath and one undecorated wreath per person.

The Pennsylvania Christmas Tree Growers Association, with over 400 members, works to promote and develop a community of interest among growers of Christmas trees in Pennsylvania and adjoining states, as well as to raise public awareness about Christmas trees.
